Nestled at the end of a tranquil valley between the historic Bainskloof Pass and the Groenberg Mountain Range, AfriCamps at Doolhof Wine Estate
is set within the award winning Doolhof Wine Estate, a short drive from the picturesque town of Wellington and only 50 minutes from Cape Town.
Our 6 AfriCamps luxury glamping tents overlook the Groenberg Mountains, surrounded by vineyards and the subtle trickle of the Kromme River that runs through the farm. You can spot livestock and horses when taking the vineyard walk or the river walk on the farm.
On Doolhof, two white varietals, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and a substantial number of reds are grown. They include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot, Pinotage and Shiraz. The white varietals are planted on the eastern slopes of the Groenberg, which allow the grapes cooler days and less direct sunlight. A visit to the estate’s tasting room is a must.
Activities on the estate include a 10 km vineyard hike and river walk, mountain bike trails that start on the property and the gorgeous wine tasting room where you can try some of the estate’s award-winning wines along with a platter. Explore the surrounding area’s popular mountain bike trails, hiking trails in the Limietberg Nature Reserve, horse riding, touring between various Wellington wine farms and distilleries as well as golf played on world-class golf courses.
Accommodation at AfriCamps at Doolhof Wine Estate:
AfriCamps tents consist of a spacious open plan lounge area with a comfortable couch and a fully equipped kitchen. The dining room area has a solid wooden table with enough seating for 5 people. For winter months the fireplace will be the perfect way to warm up the tent, bringing in an intimate setting for you and your love ones.
Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen size bed and have their own private entrance which allows maximum privacy. One of the bedrooms also contains an extra single bunk bed, so the tent will comfortably sleep a family of 5. The private wooden deck at the front of the tent comes with comfortable wooden loungers from where you can overlook the peaceful natural surroundings of a working farm or beautiful estate. A large terrace with cooling fountains and a garden adjoins the Tasting Room, making it ideal for enjoying the light lunches on offer, or a quiet stroll through the gardens. You can taste five Doolhof Wines for R25.
Delicious picnic lunches including vegetarian and kiddies’ picnics, are available. Reservations should be made 24 hours in advance with a 50% deposit, and by 12 noon on Fridays for a weekend picnic basket. Doolhof wines of your choice are available at an additional cost. As a tribute to the estate’s history and typographic Labyrinthine characteristics, a small labyrinth was constructed close to the entrance of the farm. This is a fun spot for the kids to play and make their way through the labyrinth.
Visitors can enjoy a 10km walk through the vineyards. Doolhof, which is known for its mysterious hills and vales, is also home to many small mammals, including buck, porcupine, baboons and even leopard.
