The Guest Cottage was originally part of St. Aidan`s College. It was built in 1875 and served as the laundry to the College. When it closed down it was bought by a private individual who turned it into a hotel.
However the venture was not a success and the government purchased it to be used as the East Cape Education Department. The g C has a separate title deed and up until the current owner bought it, it was used as a private home.
It is now owned by Robyn James who did extensive renovations to the building. It has been restored most magnificently and is a little piece of history well worth visiting.
A well was discovered under the house and as a result St. Aidan`s have their own source of water and are not dependent on Municipal water! Whilst many of the original features were preserved emphasis has been on cosiness and comfort.
This is not only a guest house for the executive, visiting lectures, professors, judges, but also for parents visiting their children and the getting together of friends. It is centrally located with easy access to all the schools and the university.
