Game lodges and reserves of the Western Cape

Flanked by the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, the Western Cape boasts almost 1,000 kilometres of unspoilt beaches, incredible scenic beauty and year-round moderate weather. It is blessed with an unparalleled botanical splendour and is fondly referred to as the Fairest Cape.

Arid areas of the province are covered in breathtakingly beautiful carpets of flowers between August and October following the annual rains.
Scores of Southern Right, Humpback and Brydes whales frequent the coastal waters between June and November, offering a further dimension to the floral season.

Game viewing can be done at the Karoo National Park near Beaufort West, Bontebok National Park about 3 hours from Cape Town and at a number of luxury game lodges spread through the province. Click here to view list.

The almost 30 nature reserves in the Western Cape range from the very large to the very small with more than 1 million ha of land being formally protected.

These reserves include the West Coast National Park - 80km north of Cape Town with its thousands of seabirds, pristine golden beaches and brooding salt marshes- Cederberg Wilderness Area which is renowned for its lunar landscapes, rock formations and rock art and the popular eco-destination of Tsitsikamma with its famous Otter Hiking Trail and De Hoop Nature Reserve on the whale route.
