Adjacent to Royal Natal and 4 km from its gate, is the 762 ha Rugged Glen reserve. There are nature trails and trout-fishing, and horse Rides set out from the Rugged Glen stables.
The game and birdlife are similar to those found in the Royal Natal National Park, and the sanctuaries share access roads from Harrismith and Bergville.
The Rugged Glen campsite, dominated by the 1 890 m Camel's Hump caters for visitors and has ablution blocks with hot and cold water.
Hikes Forest Walk: A short circular walk may be taken along a path from the visitors' car park, up the valley, leading through several attractive bush patches to the Mont-Aux-Sources Hotel and via the road back to the visitors' car park.
Camel's Hump: From the visitors' carpark at Rugged Glen (signposted), follow the path up to the Camel's Hump, from which magnificent views across the reserve to the Drakensberg escarpment can be seen.
