Mpumalanga Map

Mpumalanga is not a highly developed province with large cities and towns - instead, visitors to the province are brought closer to nature.

Nelspruit is the capital of the province, a friendly commercial city set in lush surroundings. The streets are lined with jacaranda and flamboyant trees and the city boasts excellent sporting facilities. From Nelspruit good roads radiate to the game reserves of the lowveld, the mountains and the historic towns.

In the area east and south of Nelspruit you'll find the historic towns of Barberton, Komatipoort, Kaapmuiden and Badplaas. Barberton was the centre of the local gold rush and the facade of Africa's first stock exchange, which was built in 1887, still stands.

Prospectors combed the area during the late 19th century gold rush. Visitors are transported back to those days in the village of Pilgrim's Rest, a national monument.

On the escarpment and highveld areas small towns like Machadodorp, Belfast, Waterval Boven, Lydenburg, Sabie and Graskop dotted the skyline.
