Game reserves and lodges of the Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape boasts a wealth of flora and fauna, including the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo), in a malaria free environment. Conservation areas include the Mountain Zebra National Park and the Addo Elephant National Park. The coastal waters are rich in marine life, with abundant dolphins and the occasional whale spotted from the beaches. The Eastern Cape offers unequalled game viewing in conditions suited to the traveler.

Addo Elephant Park and surrounding area
Home to a herd of 300 elephants, the Addo Elephant National Park allows close quarter viewing and is the most concentrated elephant reserve in Africa. There are also black rhino, buffalo, eland, kudo and other antelope species. More than 170 species of birds have been identified.

Shamwari, a privately owned, luxury game reserve boasts the "big five" in a malaria free environment and offers 5 luxury Lodges.

Grahamstown
The best known in this area is Kwandwe Game Reserve where a population of the endangered Blue Crane is protected and elephant, lion, cheetah, buffalo and black rhino wander freely. Situated on the Fort Beaufort road about 30km from Grahamstown.

 
Kenton-on-Sea
Private game reserves are situated on the coastal Route from Port Elizabeth to East London via Alexandria and Kenton-on-Sea.Cradock
The craggy heights of the Mountain Zebra National Park's Bankberg embrace rolling plains and deep valleys, and has become an entrancing preserve for the Cape mountain zebra.

Private game reserves can also be found in the remote areas of  East London and Graaff Reinet
