The prestigious malaria free, Aquila Private Game Reserve stands in an area of 4,500 hectares of Southern Karoo Highlands encapsulating breathtaking majestic mountains, rivers, valleys and kloofs.
It is home to Cape Town's closest Rhino and Giraffes and was proclaimed a private nature reserve in 1985.
Aquila is the closest Private Game Reserve to Cape Town, a mere 90 minutes from the City Centre on the N1 National Road. Aquila is named after the rare and endangered Black Eagle that thrives in the area.
Aquila is situated has several hectare of Mountain Protea. The land can be divided into three separate biomes - fynbos, renosterveldt and succulent Karoo. From July through September the Reserve displays a splendid technicolor carpet of Karoo flowers.

All cottages are designed in a unique eco-country style. Raw materials such as rock, river pebbles, natural wood, reeds and thatch have been used wherever possbile to maintain a natural look. Each cottage has its own private patio and braai area.
The premier eco-friendly cottages are all equipped with airconditioning,unique rock bathrooms and outdoor rock showers.
All cottages have en-suite bathrooms, outdoor showers, ceiling fans, fireplaces (perfect for the Cape winter) and mini-bars. The honeymoon suite boasts a Jacuzzi with spectacular views across the Reserve.

Conference Centre, Boma Restaurant and Cigar Bar The Conference Centre, Boma Restaurant & Cigar Bar, as with the Premier Cottages, are built from natural materials found on the Reserve such as rocks, river pebbles, reeds, wood and thatch to blend with the surrounding environment.
Non-denominational Chapel Plans are presently under way to construct a non-denominational Chapel with an entire wall of glass and stained glass which will be the focal point of the Chapel and also the backdrop to the beauty and panoramic expanse of the Reserve.
Wildlife Lion, Buffalo and Crocodiles. Rhino and giraffes Zebra Black & blue wildebeest, Red hartebeest Eland, Springbok, Blesbok Ostriches Gemsbok & other indigenous game Caracal (Lynx), Black-Backed Jackal, Bat-eared Fox and the elusive Mountain Leopard
Birdlife: Aquila and its huge natural wetland is home to 172 species of birds and is also home to several breeding pairs of the rare and endangered Black Eagle, after which the Reserve has been named.
