Pilanesberg National Park is situated on the eroded remains of an extinct alkaline volcanic crater - one of only three in the world. The Park consists of numerous hills, wooded ravines and grassed open plains, making the area very picturesque.
A wide diversity of eco-types makes a beautiful home for more than 35 species of large mammals, the sought-after "Big Five" and more than 300 bird species.
At the foot of the Garamoga hill lies the Bakgatla Resort which consists of unique colonial-styled chalets and safari tents, complemented by rolling lawns and a well positioned olympic-size swimming pool.
Bakgatla offers relaxation and much more for the outdoor enthusiast, such as self or conducted game drives, bird watching and exciting excursions in and around the Pilanesberg National Park.

This "jewel" is found in the rural Saulspoort area, a mere stones throw away from the Bakgatla gate.

5 Sleeper Chalets:
The chalets have a kitchen with the necessary utensils and one bathroom, one double bed in main bedroom downstairs and three single beds in the loft area upstairs.
It offers air conditioning, a private patio and braai area and a central playground. Chalets sleep a maximum of 5 people.
Centrally located with the resort is a pool and playground.
Executive Safari Tents:
The 5 executive safari tents are exclusive to Bakgatla Resort.
The tents are set on a wooden deck, with patio area looking onto the bush, fully electrified and has 2 x 3/4 beds, a sleeper couch for children under 12, a small bar fridge and an exclusive bathroom area.
The Safari Tent sleeps maximum 2 Adults plus 2 children under 12 years.

A minimum stay of 2 nights is required over weekends.
Bakgatla Resort does not offer self catering anymore, although accommodation is in self catering units. You can book on bed and breakfast and self cater for lunch and dinner.

Hiking Trails - Departing early morning driving deep into the park with an experienced guide. Minimum 6 people. No Children under 12 years of age.
Game Drives - Departing sunrise, afternoon, sundowner and night drives
Game Drive + Bush Braai - Takes you on an African adventure through 55000 hectares of the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve with an experienced game ranger. You are then transported to a boma where you will dine under the African sky, surrounded by the sound of the bush.

How to get there:
See Map Directions from Fourways, Sandton via Lanseria Airport
From Sandton travel north along William Nicol Drive to the four-way intersection with Witkoppen Road
Turn left into Witkoppen Road towards Lanseria/Roodepoort.
Turn right at the intersection with Hans Strijdom Extension on the road towards Broederstroom and Lanseria R512
Cross the bridge over the R28 Krugersdorp/Pretoria highway, pass the Lanseria turnoff and continue straight.
At the T-junction take the turn left on the R512 to Magaliesberg/Brits
Continue on this road until you see the Sun City sign board on your left.
Turn right onto the R512 to Brits and cross the bridge over Hartebeespoort Dam.
At the next T-junction turn right on the R512 to Brits. Follow the directional signs.
At the 4-way stop turn left to Rustenburg/Sun City.
At the signpost R27 Rustenburg/Brits turn right.
On the bridge turn left towards Rustenburg.
Continue to the slipway on the left, take slipway and continue on the N4 highway.
Now look out for the next turnoff to Sun City, Bapong and Majakaneng R556.
TAKE THIS TURN DO NOT PROCEED TO RUSTENBURG.
At the top of the off ramp turn right to Sun City/Bapong.
At the fourth 4-way stop turn right on the R510 (25km) to Mogwase.
Turn left at the sign posted Pilanesberg National Park.
Pass the Manyane Gate and go straight through till you reach the T-junction.
Turn left and follow the road until you reach the Bakgatla gate.
