Shingwedzi lies in the northern part of the Park and is the largest of the northern regions 3 restcamps. It is a somewhat old-fashioned (though modern), friendly camp of lovely trees, impalala lilies and bungalows with shady verandahs.
A few scenic game drives from the camp is available, like the one following the Shingwedzi River in a south-westerly direction towards Tshange lookout point, or south-east towards the Kanniedood Dam and Crocodile Pool near the Mocambique border.
The riverine forest around and north of the camp is home to a number of Kruger Parks leopard community, as well as a variety of other game species.

There are a number of gravel road loops in the area. The Kanniedood, Shingwedzi River Road down to Grootvlei can be very rewarding, while the Red Rocks loop towards Bateleur and the Mphongolo loop towards Sirheni are also productive.
If the whole day is free a trip up to Pafuri picnic site is a must, particularly for bird and tree enthusiasts.

Rentmeester Guesthouse (On the river front) 7 people
3 x air-conditioned bedrooms, each with bathroom en suite. One bedroom has three single beds and the other two have two single beds each. One bathroom has a bath, shower, toilet and basin, the second a bath, toilet and basin and the third a shower, toilet and basin. The lounge/diningroom has a ceiling fan. Kitchen with a gas stove (with oven), refrigerator/freezer, sink, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, barbecue facilities and carport.
Cottage
1 x 4-bed cottage with two bedrooms (each with ceiling fan and two single beds)
and two bathrooms (each with shower and toilet) and fully-equipped kitchen with
two-plate stove without oven. The kitchen/diningroom is situated between the two bedrooms. No air- conditioning, only ceiling fans.
Bungalows
2-bed bungalows with shower, toilet and fully-equipped kitchen with two-plate stove (without oven). No air-conditioning - only ceiling fans.
2-bed bungalows have shower, toilet, refrigerator, a veranda and ceiling fans. Cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are not provided.
Huts
3-bed huts have communal ablution facilities, a wash basin, refrigerator and open veranda; no air-conditioning - only ceiling fans. Cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are not provided.

How to get there:
See Map From Johannesburg / Pretoria to Punda Maria Gate:
Take the N1 to Polokwane (Pietersburg), at Makhado (Louis Trichard) link up with the R524 follow this route for ±140 kms and that will take you to the gate.
Allow between 5 to 6 hours for the trip to the gate. Shingwedzi Main Rest Camp is 71 km away from the gate.
Allow about 3 hours for the drive to the camp.
Regulations when Exiting the Park:
In order to improve overall controls some changes have been made to the check-out process at camps in the Kruger National Park and your assistance and co-operation is kindly requested in this regard.
Guests are reminded that only guests with
valid exit permits will be allowed to exit the park. For day visitors these are issued upon entry at gates and for overnight guests these are issued by the last camp on the guest itinerary.
