Although Gauteng is the smallest of all the provinces in South Africa, it is highly urbanised and has the second-largest population of the nine provinces. The climate is mostly influenced by the high altitude of the region. Even though the province is at a subtropical latitude, the climate is comparatively cooler, especially in Johannesburg, which is 1700m above sea level (while Pretoria is at 1330m above sea level).

Most precipitation occurs as brief afternoon thunderstorms; however relative humidity never becomes uncomfortable. Winters are crisp and dry with frost occurring often in the southern areas. Snow is very rare, but has occurred on some occasions in the Johannesburg metropolitan area. Gauteng is the commercial and industrial powerhouse of the country and indeed of southern Africa.

Dining
The Centurion Lake Hotel recently launched its brand new eatery - Brunos Restaurant, Bar and Deli - a brand new dining concept offering a delicious menu and a wonderful array of deli delights to hotel guests and visitors alike.

Brunos Restaurant welcomed its first patrons on October 1 and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, seating up to 122 guests. A full English breakfast is available, as well as an interactive lunch and dinner buffet. An à la carte menu will also be available and private functions can be catered accommodated. Brunos also has a selection of exclusive wines available from the wine cabinets.

The Deli is open from 06h30 to 18h30 daily offering guests fresh breads, croissants, baguettes, pastries, a selection of juices and coffees and an array of cold meats and cheeses. Newspapers, fresh flowers and Melissa's and Nomu products, including rubs and seasonings, are also available.
