Acorn House was designed in 1904 by the renowned architect Herbert Baker for the editor of the Cape Times newspaper, Sir Maitland Hall Park. Architecturally, the house is typical of the period and of the admired Colonial style.
With typical Baker hallmarks of white-painted plaster finish, timber colonnaded verandah, Marseilles tiled roof and decorative plaster gables, it has a grade one conservation rating from the National Monuments Council.
The location in Oranjezicht, a wonderful suburb of Cape Town right on the foot of Table Mountain, making it exceptionally convenient.
It is near many restaurants and a trendy Deli Restaurant just opposite. The city centre is a few minutes away, with the harbour`s Waterfront complex and the blue-gold beaches of the Atlantic seaboard not much further.
Verandahs and the garden provide views of Table Mountain and the city, while the upstairs bedrooms look out at the dramatic sweep of Table Bay.
There is a sparkling pool in a tranquil setting. A special attraction is the smell of the herb garden and its romantic hideaways. Sitting room and dining room have been lovingly preserved, with wooden trimmings, glowing wooden floors and comfortable, traditional furnishings.
On cooler days you may enjoy the fire. The best moment for an excellent cape wine. The wine cellar offers a growing selection of wines from the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Wellington areas.
Services include an ‘honesty- bar’ in the sitting-room and the use of fax and safe facilities. Children are accommodated, in the downstairs wing only, if they are able to swim.
Rooms The eight double bedrooms are all individually decorated, with telephones, televisions including M-Net and en-suite bathrooms with heated towel rails, bath and shower over baths.
A comfortable family room with private sitting room and patio is also available.
