In the heart of Maputaland, close to the pristine Lake Shazibe nestling behind the world's highest natural dunes, a short distance from the sea, Sodwana Bay Lodge has been carefully designed to match the rustic eco-orientated nature of the region.

Here, on the relatively untouched eastern seaboard of southern Africa, wide lakes and extensive river estuaries shimmer with life, fertile swamp and sand forest abound with rare and protected animal and plant species, while towering dunes shelter golden beaches from the lush interior.

Venturing oceanwards, the seabed is bejewelled with coral reefs and formations of dramatic splendour, staging an unceasing pageant of every imaginable kind of marine life.

Sodwana Bay National Park, world renowned as a diving destination, is chosen by more South Africans to qualify as scuba divers than anywhere else.

Sodwana Bay Lodge boasts the only 5-star PADI diving school in the district certified to train and license divers to international instructor level. The school has a fully equipped dive shop, an on site 3 metre dive pool and organises a comprehensive range of day and night ocean and qualifying dives.

Magnum Fishing Charters is based at Sodwana Bay Lodge and offers deep-sea fishing trips. Test your wits and skills against the noble marlin and combative game fish and if that is your bag - release them again into their watery world.

Swap your experiences of the day at the popular poolside bar and then wander through to same the wholesome fare served at the resort's Leatherback Seafood and Grill Restaurant.

Or enjoy a communal barbecue in a Zulu Boma (enclosure) accompanied by zestful ethnic dancing for something a little different to remember you stay at Sodwana Bay Lodge.

Rooms

Activities
International and local eco-tourists marvel at the distinct ecosystems and prolific animal, bird and plantlife to say nothing of the sight of humpback whales as they spout and gambol close to the shoreline enroute to their Southern Ocean feeding grounds.
