The Lodge backs onto nature reserve with excellent hikes as well as pot-holing, climbing and caving. Because we are in the centre of the Table Mountain National Park we're surrounded by endless trails and scenic drives.
The Winelands, Table Mountain, Cape Point, The Waterfront, Robben Island, Cape Town Stadium, Boulders penguins, ChapmanÂ’s Peak, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and the famous restaurants and bars of trendy Kalk Bay fishing village are a short drive. Nearby beaches of white sand and calm tidal pools offer some of Cape TownÂ’s safest swimming. Horse-riding, hiking, surfing, whale-watching, shark-diving, fishing and diving are nearby.
Tennis, horse-riding, hiking, surfing, whale-watching and boat trips, fishing, diving and outstanding scenic drives are nearby. From Simon's Town you can go whale watching and shark-diving and if you want to go to Hermanus or Gansbaai to do that many tour operators will pick up from this area.
The Clovelly Country Club's championship 18-hole golf-course is just next door - Simon's Town, Westlake and Steenberg golf-courses are just 10 minutes drive.
Cape Point is a 20-30 minute drive and the city centre is a similar distance. So you are never far away from the Waterfront shopping and entertainment district, the Table Mountain cableway, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Robben Island and the other museums and galleries of the CBD.
Cape Town also has a number of outstanding theatre venues including Artscape in the centre, the Baxter in Rondebosch, the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg and the Kalk Bay Kitchen (for evenings with dinner and show) round the corner.
Its also a very short drive to the start of the Wine Routes through Constantia, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. Other great day-trips include the West Coast (a top spot is the national park near Langebaan, especially in spring flower-season but any time of year is worthwhile), the semi-desert region round Worcester/Robertson famous for its early cave paintings and its succulent flora, the scenic Walker Bay area including Betty's Bay, Kleinmond and Hermanus, and the historic village of Genadendal followed with lunch in sleepy Greyton with its dramatic mountain backdrop.
How to get there:
See Map From Cape Town International Airport, follow the N2 towards central Cape Town and turn left onto the M3 signposted ‘Muizenberg’ and/or (depending on which sign you're looking at) 'Kirstenbosch'/'Rhodes Drive'.
Follow this road all the way to the end (10-15 minutes). From the end of the M3 (which goes past Rondebosch, Newlands, Constantia, Tokai) go left towards Muizenberg (NOT right to Fish Hoek).
Take the main road along the coast, through Muizenberg and Kalk Bay.
Boyes Drive offers a scenic alternative (with stunning views of the Indian Ocean and False Bay) and brings you out at the end of Kalk Bay in front of the fishing harbour (from the end of Boyes Drive turn right).
Take the turning into Clovelly Road sign-posted 'Clovelly') opposite the beach, immediately after Kalk Bay (before Fish Hoek).
Take your first left off Clovelly Road into Montrose Avenue and follow the road along, almost to the end. The B&B Guest House is on the right - Number 40. Self-catering guests check in there too and are then taken down to their apartments.
Clothing & Accessories:
Hats and sunscreens are essential. If you plan to hike you should also pack lightweight waterproofs. The top of Table Mountain is often cloudy and it can get very wet up there, even in summer. The mountains can become chilly on the hottest day, so a fleece and long pants are also a good idea, along with decent trainers or boots.
Health & Climate:
Cape Town is in the western cape province which is malaria free. There are currently no vaccination requirements for visiting this area. Clovelly is relatively protected from the strong south-easterly winds common in Cape Town during the hot summer months.
