Activities
East London is full of things to do and places to see, including:

The City Hall, with its Clock Tower commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, is a splendid example (recently restored) of the architecture of the late 19th Century.

The East London Museum, situated in Upper Oxford Street, offers visitors a variety of exhibitions representing the natural environment and rich heritage of the region. Probably best known for the prehistoric coelacanth, the museum also displays reconstruction of the extinct dodo of Mauritius, along with the only known dodo egg in the world.

The Ann Bryant Art Gallery, the building with its stained-glass windows, pressed-steel ceilings, wooden floors and spacious rooms is a lovely example of post-Victorian architecture. Its permanent art collection is widely representative of South African art from 1880 to the present and includes paintings, graphics, drawings, photography, ceramics and sculptures by well-known artists from all over the country.

The East London Aquarium, officially opened on 2 December 1931, has since grown to a modern, sophisticated facility which houses approximately four hundred different species of marine and fresh-water animals.
