Ilala Lodge

Average Guest Rating:

Ilala Lodge offers distinguished yet affordable accommodation in a gracious and secluded ambiance. The decor evokes a bygone era of adventure and the quest of discovery in Africa.

The hotel is ideally situated and is the closest to the Victoria Falls as well as the town centre. The National Park borders the front of property and wild animals often graze on the hotel lawns with the spray of the falls in the background.

A warm welcome awaits you at our world class a la carte Palm Restaurant. We offer superb cuisine while you relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the gracious surrounds. The Palm Restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner and offers a comprehensive wine list and cocktails.

Dining outside under the African night sky amidst the sound of the mighty waterfall makes for a romantic evening to be remembered.

For a different way of eating try the Kubika Restaurant - a Mongolian stirfry experience. Try our ostrich, crocodile and various meats.

This beautiful lodge is situated a mere 10 minutes by foot from one of the natural wonders of the world - the Victoria Falls - and is without doubt the most centrally located accommodation establishment to stay at in Victoria Falls.

Rooms:

Ilala Lodge offers 32 rooms - 24 twins, 6 doubles and 2 suites. All rooms have en suite bathroom with seperate shower, air conditioning, overhead fan and satellite TV and are served early morning tea / coffee, fruit basket and homemade biscuits.

The rooms are spacious with railway sleeper teak furnishings and patio doors leading onto either open lawn or a balcony where you are afforded a view of the spray of the falls.

Activities:

Victoria Falls has a lot to offer the visitor and is known as Africa's adventure capital. From high adrenalin activities like bungi jumping and white water rafting to more sedate pastimes like fishing or elephant back safaris, Victoria Falls has it all. Ilala Lodge can book any activities for you and advise you on what is available. Some of the highlights are:

The Ra-Ikane
The Ra-Ikane is a small luxury cruise boat that is out-fitted to suggest, in exquisite detail, an ambiance of a bygone era. This cruise boat is exclusive and personalised and designed to compliment your stay with us. Period decor, historic memorabilia, fine cuisine and refreshments characterise a level of comfort and grace unsurpassed on the Zambezi.

Croc farm and nature sanctuary
Visit our croc farm and get to see how we rear these reptiles from eggs to full adult crocodiles. The eggs hatch in about December or January so if you are here in those months ask to see them. Feeding times are a highlight and we recommend taking a guided tour with one of our experienced guides.

Feeding time is at 3.45pm to 4.00pm daily. The nature sanctuary has many species of interesting animals such as lion, leopard and ostrich and there is a full leather workshop which sells its goods on site.

Zambezi wildlife safaris
This is our in house tour operator. We can cater for any bookings or enquiries you might have. We can then book it for you and we can advise you on the best options.

Some of the activities on offer are: white water rafting, river boarding, jet boat trips above and below the falls, horse rides, golf, bush walks, game drives, day and overnight trips to Chobe (Botswana) and Hwange National Park, falls tours, village tours, bungi jumping, gorge swinging, elephant back safaris, helicopter and fixed wing scenic flights over the falls, microlight flights, fishing, bush dinners, canoe safaris and more...

The food at Ilala was amazing and the staff very friendly and helpful. The accommodations could use a little updating...the beds are very comfortable, but carpet could use some updating and the tiles some scrubbing out. I was very satisfied with my stay and can see that after years of turmoil and poverty the area is making great strides to improve and become tourism friendly. I was traveling alone on this leg of my journey and I was only slightly nervous for my safety walking around (they do offer escorts from "tourism police") Anyone traveling here think of bringing extra T-shirts and clothes to barter with the locals.

A little pricy, my opinion verified by the small number of guests. Facilities and service was excellent, staff very friendly, I felt at home.

We had a great stay, staff very friendly and accommodating, especially when we asked for a late check out. Only negative - the pool, quite small and the water was very cloudy, with no hint of chlorine.
