Come and soothe away the tensions, as you relax in the calm ambience of Calderwood Hall Guest House, a three star Edwardian Country House nestled in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Epitomising timeless elegance, the manor house has five metre high steel pressed ceilings, large fire places, bay windows and an abundance of beautiful antique and unusual furniture.

An impressive wooden staircase takes centre stage in the entrance hall which also boasts a plethora of stained-glass feature windows. Calderwood Hall is surrounded by dams, forests and beautiful gardens with a swimming pool, gazebo, ornamental fountain and ancient oak trees.

Unwind in one of our exquisitely decorated Manor House suites. Each has a different cultural theme; the Bridal suite, the Egyptian suite, the Chinese suite, the Victorian suite and the Indian suite. They all have en-suite bathrooms.

Set in the gardens are a further 20 garden suites including a studio cottage and our quaint thatched rondavel (which is wheel chair friendly).

All the rooms are non-smoking, have TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, heaters and fans and the beds have feather duvets and electric blankets for those chilly winters days.

Everything you need and more... The inviting Jardine Function Centre is designed as both a wedding venue and a conference centre. It is ideal for special occasions with its large draped chandeliered function room and thatched stained glass chapel. The wedding venue opens up on one side so that guests can look out onto the breathtaking surrounds.

The conference centre allows for strategic ‘bosberade`, team building sessions and functions as well as day conferences. The venue is air conditioned for your comfort. You can look forward to tasty food, beautifully presented and a quiet, no fuss, management style.

Rooms
Our most popular accommodation is located within the Manor House itself. Each suite is exquisitely decorated with a different cultural theme. All the rooms in the Manor House are non smoking, have DSTV, feather duvets on the beds, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The Bridal Suite:
The Bridal Suite is a spacious east-facing fairytale room, most suitable for a bridal couple. The huge romantic 4-poster bed is draped in white fabric giving it a whimsical feel. The large windows overlook the gardens and dam. Other comfortable pieces of furniture adorn this elegant en-suite room.

The Indian Suite:
The Old Indian Colonial days are very apparent in this opulent suite. Draped with Indian wall hangings, elaborately carved screens and ancient artefacts, this en-suite room oozes Oriental charm.

The Victorian Suite:
The large Victorian Suite is also east- facing, elegant and in keeping with the theme of the main house. Front facing with large sash windows, it overlooks the garden and dam. A huge king-sized 4-poster bed takes centre stage amongst all the other antique furniture.

The Egyptian Suite:
In the Egyptian suite, a large 4-poster bed adorns the middle of the room, which has an abundance of Egyptian artefacts, and an Egyptian wall hanging which gives the room an authentic feel.

The Chinese Suite:
Ancient China beckons you to this luxurious suite with a large en-suite bathroom with a cast iron ball and claw bath and shower. Many pieces of furniture from China adorn this room and the whole atmosphere gives that feel of the east.

The Garden Suites:
There are a further 20 garden suites which are ideal for families or conference groups. Five of the rooms are family suites and can hold 4/5 guests if required, 13 of the rooms are twin-bedded.

These are tastefully decorated in neutral earthy colours and overlook a large tranquil pasture (you may spot some dairy cows in the distance!) All the rooms have heaters and the beds have feather duvets for those chilly winters days. The french doors open onto large, cool, tiled verandas making

The Studio Cottage is particularly suited to family visits as it has two bedrooms with a shared bathroom and a communal lounge area. Our quaint thatched Rondavel is situated along side the Manor House and is wheelchair friendly.

The room has a distinctive ‘Out of Africa' feel with a collection of craft hand made by the people in the area. It boasts a double bed with a feather duvet and a full bathroom with a large shower.
