Activities:
- Mining shafts excavated in the 1880s.
- The Klerksdoro Museum. It was built in 1891 as a prison and served as such until 1973. The house of the warden hosts period exhibitions. It exhibits the Klerksdorp Spheres, metallic spheres that pseudo-archeologists consider man-made.
- The Faan Meintjies Nature Reserve, located about 15 km from Klerksdorp. It has 30 species of game and 150 species of birds.
- The Oudorp hiking trail. It is a 12 km long trail and winds its way through the oldest parts of the town.
- Goudkoppie (Gold Hill) is the city's latest tourist attraction. It is situated near both the N12 highway and the Johannesburg-Cape Town railway line.
- Klerksdorp Annually hosts one of South Africas premium Airshows events, the Klerksdorp Airshows attracts around 20 000 people to the Klerksdorp airshow, you can view the Klerksdorp Airshows website for airplane images and photos of previous events.
How to get there:
DIRECTIONS FROM BOTHAVILLE / ORKNEY
Drive through town onto the bridge over N12 freeway. Turn right into N12 - Freeway. Go straight into N12 - Main Reef Freeway and continue in a north eastern direction (on your way to Potch / Johannesburg) Turn left into Plataan Avenue at last robot before exiting Klerksdorp (Star Café and Caltex garage is on your left). Continue in Plataan and turn left into Pelser street (Small church on your left) Turn left into Gerald street and turn right into second Redelinghuys str. Continue straight and Gemstone will be at end of street.
DIRECTIONS FROM VENTERSDORP
Go straight into R30 - Chris Hanie (Jan Van Riebeeck Road) and continue east. You will pass a filling station and a school on your right, go past them and turn left into Buffeldoorn road (There will be a sign saying Faan Meintjies or Wilmed Hospital) pass the first robot in Buffeldoorn and at next Stop turn right into Monica Avenue and continue in a north eastern direction. Turn right at Robot into Platan Avenue, turn right at small church in Platan into Pelser street. You will see my pointer showing you the way into Gerald Str. Turn left into Gerald Street and continue in a south eastern direction for 92 m. Turn right into Redelinghuys street (Second Entrance) Arriving at Destination.
DIRECTIONS FROM JOHANNESBURG, STILFONTEIN
When coming from Johannesburg, Stilfontein approaching Klerksdorp, turn right at first robot into Platan avenue. Drive straight until you see a small church on left and turn left into Pelser street. Turn left in Gerald street and then, right into second entrance of Redelinghuys street. Drive on and look out for our black-and-white pointers.
When travelling from Wolmaransstad in the direction of Potchefstroom, turn left at last robot(Caltex) into Platan Avenue. Follow directions above.
