Rooms:
Gnu Ranch offers three kinds of accommodation, several kilometers apart in distance and in features. Choose the one fitting your needs.
ROCK LODGE:
The lodge has two thatched units, built a short distance apart with privacy in mind. Each unit has three bedrooms opening onto a private patio all with en-suite bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen opening onto a covered deck with a spectacular view and an intimate rock boma to enjoy the music of the Bushveld nightlife around a cozy fire.
When the game seek shade under the big Marula and Wild fig trees in the heat of day, the deck surrounding the elevated rock pool is the ideal place to enjoy the sunshine. Each unit is booked for only one group at a time, with a special unit price for bigger groups.
TREE TOP CABIN:
Ideal for a romantic getaway or quality time with family and friends. Built in the branches of a huge Tamboti tree, it surely is the ultimate regarding privacy and uniqueness.
The two bedroom cabin has a private swimming pool, intimate fireplace, fully equipped kitchen and a deck overlooking a bird rich wetland. Even the outside bath seems to hang between the branches! The cabin has a TV with SABC channels (bring your own decoder for DSTV)
VALLEY CAMP:
This renovated farmhouse is located in the centre of the ranch and is very remote, ensuring a total break from the rush of modern life .The house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and the lounge has an indoor fireplace and TV.(Limited channels, bring your own decoder for full DSTV).
Break the heat of day in your private swimming pool, walk down to the Bass dams for some fishing or take a drive around the ranch in your own vehicle. After sunset you can enjoy the sounds of nature around a true Bushveld fire in the boma built under a massive Marula tree.
LUXURY TENT:
The tree top tent is a true Bushveld experience; you will never get closer to nature.... in luxury and ultimate privacy! The chalet type tent is built on stilts against a steep slope overlooking the renowned Waterberg Mountains. The tent has a king size bed, en-suite bathroom and an equipped kitchen. Spoil your overworked body n the spa-bath under the trees and appreciate the brilliant creation around you.
Activities:
We offer game-drives on a open Land-cruiser seating 10 people, alternatively drive around in your own vehicle. We give our guest the freedom to drive all over the reserve at their own time, wander around whenever they feel like and enjoy our piece of pristine Bushveld as if it were their own.
You will receive a map of the ranch on arrival. Bring your tackle box and try your luck at Bass, Kurper or Karp in any of our dams or bring your boat and fish at Mokolo dam, the biggest dam in Limpopo and a fly-fishing hotspot.
Self-drives- drive around in your own vehicle. We give our guest the freedom to drive all over the ranchat their own time, wander around whenever they feel like and enjoy our piece of pristine Bushveld as if it were their own. You will receive a map of the ranch on arrival.
Game-drives- We offer game-drives on an open vehicle on request at a hourly rate.
Fishing- Bring your tackle box and try your luck at Bass, Kurper or Karp in any of our dams or bring your boat and fish at the nearby Mokolo dam, the biggest dam in Limpopo and a fly-fishing hotspot.
How to get there:
Gnu Ranch is located only 250km tarred road from Pretoria, an eay 2,5 hour drive.
1. Take the N1 North to Polokwane
2. At the Kranskop Plaza turn left to Nylstroom/Modimolle
3. Follow the road straight through Nylstroom to Vaalwater
4. Proceed through Vaalwater to Bulgerivier/Thabazimbi
(Do not turn right into Lephalale)
5. 68km from Vaalwater you will find the reception/farmhouse and Gnu Ranch sign on the left, and the entrance to the ranch on your right.

Health & Climate:
Climates vary from hot to cold and from wet to dry depending on the time of year. During May through August, nights and early mornings can be of low temperature and therefore warm clothing is essential.
Clients should bring at least one warm jacket. During September through April you won't even remember what winter is like!
