Kulungi Riverside Lodge

Grading: Average Guest Rating:

Kulungi Riverside Lodge is situated on the banks of the Olifants River in the Grietjie Private Natures Reserve, within the vast Balule Nature Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park.

It is a mere 37km from the Phalaborwa entrance gate to the Kruger Park.

Balule Private Reserve is expanding all the time and is home to the Big Five and world famous for its abundance of animals and birdlife.

Cuisine:
Kulungi’s Main Lodge consists of the Dining Room, Bar Area and TV Lounge with DSTV.

Kulungi provides good wholesome cooking that can be enjoyed daily in the dining room - a full breakfast, light lunches (by prior arrangement) and a 3 course set menu dinner.

Occasionally, weather permitting outdoor dining in the boma, under the stars can be enjoyed as well as a relaxing evening sitting around the large fire pit.

Come relax and enjoy sun downers around the pool, on the lodge patio or at the family friendly bar area in the main lodge.

Facilities and Services:
* Parking
* Shuttle to & from airport by prior arrangement.
* Swimming pool
* Access to the internet is available on request
* TV in the lounge

Rooms:

All chalets units have an en-suite shower, ceiling fan, mosquito net, mini bar and a private patio where guests can view the abundant species of game, including four of the Big Five drinking at the waterhole or at the river.

Thatched chalets:
Five private, totally separate, spacious thatched chalets. All chalets are open plan with a double bed and a bunk bed, so are not suited to 2 couples. They have a ceiling fan, mosquito net, mini bar and a private patio.

The chalets have air-conditioning, shower facility only, and can comfortably sleep a family of four.

Luxury tents:
Two totally separate, spacious luxury tents. Each tent has an en-suite full bathroom, fan, mini bar and a private patio. Each tent comfortably sleeps 3 persons, with two extra length 3/4 beds and one single bed. We regret that there is no air-conditioning in the tents.

Self catering units:
Each unit has an en-suite bathroom with shower facilities only, equipped kitchen, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, mosquito nets, plug in mosquito machine and a private patio where guests can view the game and abundant birds.

The units can comfortably sleep a family of four on a double bed and set of single bunk-beds.

Towels and bed linen are provided and the kitchen comes equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, 2 plate stove, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery for 4 people, drinking glassware for 4 people and standard kitchen utensils and cookware.

For the braai enthusiast a Weber braai is also provided, but please bring along your own charcoal/briquettes/firelighters etc.

Activities:

You may be lucky and experience game viewing from your own private viewing verandah. We are open to the world famous Kruger Park and all Game is free to wander.

Early morning bush walks and evening game drivers with a guide will reveal the wonders of the bush and enthusiastic ornithologists can view over 300 species of birds including the shy Purple Crested Lourie, the fierce and majestic Bateleur and the rare Pels Fishing Owl.

Friendly advice is available about Sight seeing trips which can be booked for you to the Moholoholo animal rehabilatation centre, the Cheetah research centre, flights over the untamed bush. For the more adventurous there is white water rafting, a flight in a hot air balloon, or Elephant back riding. This can either be self drive or by arrangement.

Golf enthusiasts can unwind on one of the picturesque courses within easy driving distance from Kulungi, and a must would be to enjoy a round at the renowned Hans Meresky Golf Course where it is common to see elephant, giraffe, warthogs, baboons and a variety of antelope crossing the rolling fairways.
