Rooms:
The spacious guestrooms, seven in all, which are both intimate and comfortable, conjure up the latest word in contemporary organic design - the architect was involved in various building projects in post-wall Berlin.
All have en suite bathrooms, satellite tv, large kingsize beds, lofty ceilings with big fans and doors opening onto the garden and/or canyon views.
Room types:
* Standard with shower and no views
* Semi luxury with shower (and some with bath) and garden views
* Luxury with bath shower and garden views or with private balcony and canyon views
Activities:
One can go white water rafting on the tumultuous river, or hike down the canyon slopes to watch the cormorants and observe and hear the lake's vociferous hippo population, or go on a cruise.
Birdspotting expeditions with a local expert in the canyon's higher reaches can be organised.
Or, reaching still higher, for truly panoramic views: how about a hot air balloon expedition or an elephant back safari? Of course, there are numerous game drives in the Kruger by day and night, you can go horse riding in the bush, or how about a game of golf at the Drakensig golf course ?
Local attractions include the Swadini Reptile Park, Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre (their documentary about animal orphans has been shown regularly on the Discovery Channel) and, the Kapama Cheetah project.
Those interested in the early days of the country's mining sector might enjoy a visit to Pilgrim's Rest.
