The Hayloft is a lovely converted Victorian Loft building set in the heart of the Witterberge (the Southern Drakensberg) in the quaint town of Barkly East.
The house is very attractive and comfortable, and has 1 large Loft Suite which takes up the upper level of the house and has magnificent views over the rooftops of Barkly East to the snow-capped Witterberge, and beyond.
One double room and 1 twin room - all the bedrooms are heated and have down duvets, and the bathrooms are heated, too. The house is north-facing which is lovely for the chilly ski season.
This area must have some of the most unexplored, breathtaking alpine vistas in South Africa. The Hayoft is close to the South African ski slopes of Tiffindell, and enjoys periodic snowfalls from May through to August.
There is a lot of outdoor activity to participate in in this region - there are numerous off-road rallies, fly-fishing, horseback riding, river rafting, and canoeing (the crocs are a favourite in the area...) mountain climbing, exploring caves (there is an abundance of San rock art in the region), bird watching, game spotting - there are many different species of buck, as well as the only indigenous reindeer, not to mention the many troups of baboons.
In Spring and Summer there are many beautiful wild flowers to be seen on the many mountain passes in the area, and there are many lovely day-drives one can take to enjoy the fantastic views... picnic baskets are available for guests.
The small hamlets of Rhodes, Elliot and Lady Grey are all close to Barkly East.
