Just 90 minutes drive from Cape Town lies Paternoster, a scenic old fishing village on the Cape West Coast. Framed by indigenous fynbos, unspoilt white sandy beaches and rocky outcrops hugging the Atlantic Ocean,
Paternoster’s charm is reflected in its quaint blue-shuttered Greek-style whitewashed houses, the tinkling of boat masts in the breeze and brightly coloured fishing vessels scattered along the shore.
Not only is Paternoster one of the oldest fishing villages in South Africa, but it is also home to a host of creative talent, with many local artists living and working here to display their sculpture, painting, photography and pottery in various village shops and galleries. In addition, people come here to experience West Coast character and its unpretentious Paternoster people, known for their hospitality, humour and fervent passion for the sea.
Most people who visit the peaceful village simply want to escape the bussle of city life and practice the art of doing as little as possible. For these jaded city dwellers and travelers looking for a luxurious self-catering getaway, the Seaside Cottages
offer the perfect seaside escape.

The view is so amazing from Unit No 1 that just sitting and looking at it gives a sense of peace and relaxation. We walked for hours on the beach and chatted to the fishermen. We ate fresh fish every day as well as rock lobster. Maintenance of the unit is a little bit shaky - the pool was dirty, kreepy not working, and we replaced a number of outside light bulbs ourselves. Besides these small items however, the staff were very helpful and we were thrilled that we could watch the Royal Wedding on DSTV. Also there is a restaurant nearby called "Gaaitjie" which is world class. All in all, we felt that our few days came to an end far too quickly, and we will be back!
