One of South Africa`s best kept secret places, Sani Mountain Lodge is a small rustic establishment that boasts the highest pub in Africa at 2874m above sea level.
It is located high on the Drakensberg escarpment on the border between South Africa and Lesotho.
Sani Top is one of the few beautiful places in the Drakensberg Mountains and the highest part where you can get to by vehicle (via the Sani Pass - 4x4 vehicles only
For the adventurous skier or snow boarder a good oppertunity presents itself in winter when Sani Top is covered in powdery snow. In Winter there are adventurous skiing opportunities although snow is never guaranteed.
The "First Chair" at Black Mountain, Sani Top is a 300m or so ski run which is interrupted by the road. This is the most accessible of the runs above the road but only fills after a good dump.
Always leave Sani Top by 15h00 to make sure you hit the bottom before the gates are chained at 16h00. Lousy weather in the pass or a 10 tonner stuck on a hairpin could mean you`re going to overnight at Sani Top.
Lunches: Unless you are a large group, you do not need to book. Lunch prices start from R55, excluding drinks. Lunch is available from a small menu from 11.30am to 3 pm. You are not permitted to take liquor across the border into Lesotho. We accept VISA, MasterCard, Diners Club and American Express credit cards and cash. The local currency, Maloti, is on par with the South African rand.
Our Lodge offers you a range of accommodation.
You can choose cozy and comfortable en-suite rondavels each with fireplace (including five traditional double/twins and four modern family doubles with bunk beds).
Also available at a short distance from the rondavels are five private backpacker rooms sleeping two to six people with shared ablution facilities as well as camping facilities - we offer these as a self catering option or the possibility of booking for meals at the Lodge.
When booking accommodation, please request weather information so that you pack the correct gear and clothing and are prepared for all possible situations. As you may very well know, summers are warm to fresh while winter when out of doors will be cool to very cold.

Loved the hospitality of all the staff and their willingness to help all the time. Enjoyed the well stocked bar whilst it snowed outside.

We enjoyed our short stay. The staff were friendly and pleasant. Beautiful setting. Food was plenty and very good. Tea /coffee making facilities in the Rooms/Chalets would be an advantage.

This is the second time we visited Sani Top Chalets and it was fantastic. Recommend it to anyone; especially if you are lucky as we were. We got snow at time of stay and what a fairy tale picture.

The place must have one of the best locations one can wish for. The service compared to two years ago was rather poor, food lacked some commitment from staff and was mediocre.
