Mhondoro Game Lodge is a luxury 5-star accommodation in Welgevonden Game Reserve, a malaria-free and Big 5 game reserve in Limpopo, South Africa. It`s main lodge and private villa have recently been rebuilt and the interior of its suites have been refurbished, offering a tasteful mix of African chic and contemporary design.
The luxurious, child-friendly lodge has quickly become famous for its new underground waterhole hide, connected to the main lodge by a tunnel, offering an easy, safe and above all unique opportunity to be amongst the animals drinking at the waterhole in front of the lodge. Mhondoro Game Lodge is the only 5-star safari lodge that has this feature.
Mhondoro Game Lodge is family friendly yet private and quiet to accommodate small groups to relax and explore the abundantly present wildlife during game drives. For those who prefer to indulge in ultimate relaxation or work up some sweat, the spa and gym are at your disposal, including a team of qualified and experienced beauty therapists. The pool, sauna, bar and lounge are available for all guests during the whole day. All our rooms have private en-suite bathrooms and are serviced daily.
Mhondoro Game Lodge is located a 2 hour and 45 minutes drive from O.R. Tambo International Airport, making it the perfect safari destination for those who arrive in South Africa in Johannesburg. Even quicker is travelling by a small plane - it not only takes you there in less than an hour, but it also offers an amazing experience flying over the Welgevonden Game Reserve as you approach the runway.

Honeymoon Suite
The Honeymoon Suite is true to its name and offers a perfect romantic getaway. Accommodating 2, the intimate building boasts one spacious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. It`s uniqueness is in its private viewing deck with a spa pool and daybed. It is located furthest away from the lodge, providing a very secluded and private feel while making it the perfect spot to raise a glass of champagne and enjoy the uninterrupted view at the animals or to watch the stars at night.
Executive Suite
The Executive Suite accommodates 4, and has two bedrooms that both have en-suite bathrooms. Youll find an extra lounge area with a fireplace and a spacious private viewing deck, overlooking the waterhole. Its an opulent retreat with all facilities of the Main Lodge within short walking distance.
Deluxe Suite
The Deluxe Suite accommodates 2. The building has one bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a private viewing deck with a daybed, which overlooks the waterhole. Its a perfectly secluded hideaway, with all facilities of the Main Lodge within short walking distance.

The Family Suite accommodates 4. It has two bedrooms and because of its shared bathroom, a lounge and a dining area its the perfect accommodation for families. The spacious private viewing deck overlooks the waterhole. The Family Suite is a separate building, yet with all facilities of the Main Lodge within short walking distance.
Villa
The Villa is perfectly suited as an exclusive family or group accommodation where you are looked after from beginning to end. Exclusive use of the Villa means that all meals, selected local drinks, a private pool, a private gym and yoga room, a private game viewer with ranger, a private chef, a private butler and housekeeping staff is included. The Villa accommodates three bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. It is a private building, with all facilities of the Main Lodge within short walking distance.
Activities:
Game Drives
After your arrival at the main gate, you will be treated to your first sighting of the reserve's permanent residents: Impala, Warthog, Giraffe, Rhino, Kudu, Eland, Elephant and many others.
Your hosts are knowledgeable and friendly and will keep you entertained throughout your early morning and afternoon game viewing drives. Their love of the bush is infectious and you'll soon find yourself eagerly waiting for the next animal anecdote or tidbit of information.
Sun downers and snacks are served on the evening game drives. The rangers usually choose magnificent spots such as atop a mountain ridge where you can stand and stare at the majestic beauty around you and enjoy a fine South African chardonnay. Hot beverages and snacks will keep you warm on the early morning drives.
Bush Walks
Bush walks and hiking excursions are offered with fully qualified rangers. These vary with the weather and the desires of the guests. Along with some of the larger animals you may well see some of the "Little Five"- Elephant Shrew, Leopard Tortoise, Rhino Beetle, Buffalo Weaver and Ant Lion.
Your rangers are extremely knowledgeable about the bush and you will soon find yourself absorbed in the wonders of this magical eco- system.
Health and Climate:
The climate of the Waterberg area can be described as warm temperate with three distinct seasons.
From May to July it is dry with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 22.3°C and 2.6°C respectively. Ground frosts occur regularly, particularly in low-lying areas.
From August to October, daily temperatures begin to rise, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 27.6 °C and 8.6°C respectively, and although generally dry, occasional thunderstorms develop.
The annual wet season extends from November to April, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 29.3°C and 14.5°C respectively.

Cancellation Policy:
The following cancellation terms and conditions will apply to reservations which are cancelled in part or in full as follows;
- 45 and 30 days prior to arrival – 30% of the total amount will be due.
- 29 and 15 days prior to arrival – 50% of the total amount will be due.
- 14 and 0 days prior to arrival – 100% of the total amount will be due.
Directions:
Take the N1 past Pretoria East towards Pietersburg (Polokwane).
Come off the N1 at Kranskop Toll Plaza, turn left and head west through Modimolle and Vallwater.
Do not deviate form the main road when passing through either Modimolle or Vaalwater.
The Welgevonden Main Gate is 26km from Vallwater on the left.
Guests are treated to a refreshing drink upon their arrival at main gate and are then transferred directly to the lodge. (Approximately 50 minutes drive).
