Matjiesvlei Cottages has Self Catering Accommodation, These fully equipped self-catering holiday homes are situated in Matjiesvlei (Matjies Valley) at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountain Range only 16 km from Calitzdorp.

The spectacular mountain views along with the mixed farming activities of the valley provide a tranquil atmosphere. The valley is a dead end and therefore quiet and peaceful.

The hustle and bustle of city life melts away – the perfect place to relax and unwind. In all the cottages, except Die Skuur, all linen and towels are provided. The kitchens are fully equipped.

Accommodation at Matjiesvlei Cottages:
Die Bokwagtershuis:
Die Bokwagtershuis, “Goat keeper’s house”, was originally built during the 19th century as accommodation for Matjiesvlei’s goat keeper. His task was to tend to all the goats of the different farmers in the valley. The house has been authentically restored to maintain its atmosphere, with addition of modern amenities.
• In the main bedroom there is a double bed, the second bedroom has 2 single beds.
• All linen included.
• The lounge has a wood burning closed system fire place for heating in winter.
• There is an air conditioner in the lounge.
• The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and has a table which comfortably seats 4 people.
• The spacious stoep overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area with a built-in braai and more than enough seating for guests.
• Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available.
• The kitchen is equipped with all the required utensils, including cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer and stove.
• There is a washing machine in the store room.
• The bathroom has a bath, shower and basin, with the toilet separate.
• On hot summer days you can cool off in the nearby farm dam, or go for a swim in the river at the private picnic site.

Middelplaas:
The history of the cottage on Middelplaas (Middle Farm) is unknown. It is the only house on Middelplaas and was probably many decades ago used as a residence for the people looking after the farm for the owners who lived elsewhere in the valley. Over the years it became very run down before it was renovated by the present owners into a cottage with the most beautiful view over the olive orchard, veld and mountains. It is a cosy 2 bed roomed self catering cottage, only 3 minutes walk from the private picnic site next to the river
• In the main bedroom there is a double bed, the second bedroom has 2 single beds.
• All linen included.
• The lounge has an open fireplace for heating in winter, or the occasional braai.
• There is an air conditioner in the lounge.
• The sheltered stoep overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area with enough seating for guests.
• There is a circular braai on the grass adjacent to the stoep.
• Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available.
• The kitchen is equipped with all the required utensils, including cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer and stove.
• The bathroom has a shower, basin, and toilet.
• A gas water cylinder provides hot water.
• On hot summer days you can go for a swim in the river at the nearby private picnic site.

Die Stalle
Die Stalle (The Stables) was originally built as the residences for two of the owners of undivided shares in the agricultural land bordering the Kleinrivier (Little River). Later owners turned the houses into stables. It has now been restored into a comfortable 3 bed roomed cottage with a beautiful view of the valley and mountains. It is next to the farm dam.
• In the main bedroom there is a double bed, the second and third bedrooms have 2 single beds each.
• All linen included.
• Two of the bedrooms have Queen Anne stoves for heating in winter.
• There is an air conditioner in the middle bedroom.
• The spacious stoep overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area with a built-in braai and more than enough seating for guests. This serves as kitchen/dining room/ living room.
• Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available.
• The kitchen is equipped with all the required utensils, including cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine
• The bathroom has a bath, shower, basin and toilet.
• The en suite bathroom to the room with the double bed has a shower.
• The water is heated with a gas cylinder.
• On hot summer days you can cool off in the nearby farm dam, or go for a swim in the river at the private picnic site.
