Franshoek Mountain Lodge lies in a secluded valley in the heart of the cherry growing district of the Eastern Free State, where, in season, you can pick you own cherries.
It is surrounded by the majestic Maluti mountains, a vision of green in summer, snow capped in winter. A landscape of sheer sandstone cliffs, that give way to gentle slopes.
The farm has huge overhanging caves and waterfalls to explore - and countless walks and trails under the willows and up the mountain where crystals are found lying in abundance.
With only ten rooms, it is an intimate, relaxed, family friendly lodge with plenty to do for both adults and children.
The lodge itself is an enchanting thatched building with a roaring log fire for winter nights and a barbeque outdoors for summer.
There is a fully stocked bar and delicious three course meals are served in the sandstone dining room.
The lodge has a spectacular sandstone edged swimming pool, where lunches are served in summer.
For those that wish to enjoy peace and quiet, there are many secret hideaways, either at the river's edge, an artist's paradise, or in our well stocked library.
Situated on the boundary of a magnificent game farm - walk or take a guided tour to watch the rhino being fed.
One of the first polo lodges to start in South Africa, it has progressed to become one of the finest in the country. The horses roam free, watching them disappear into the rolling mist or grazing beneath the backdrop of one of our glorious sunsets is an awe inspiring sight.
The bedrooms are situated in an old farmhouse, and each has its own entrance into the garden. Some of the rooms have log fires.
