We welcome you to Eagles` Rock Mountain Retreat, our beautiful piece of God`s creation set in the magnificent Southern Drakensberg Mountains, near Underberg and Himeville.
This pristine farming area is one of South Africa`s premier trout fishing destinations. Our Retreat is magnificently positioned on a mountain plateau overlooking the Umzimkulu River and lush farmlands.
Being owner run ensures a very warm welcome, wonderful hospitality and an enjoyable holiday.
Enjoy the tranquility of our private 25 acres of pure spring water and lovely views. Wander through the pine forest, scramble over the koppies, add to the check list of over 100 bird species or fly fish in our well stocked trout dam.
For the more energetic there is river tubing, canoeing, mountain walks, horse riding, tennis, squash and golf available nearby.
Spend a day hiking in the Natal Parks Board areas or enjoy going on a Rock Art excursion. We can even arrange a visit to a Vulture Restaurant should you so desire.
We are the ideal "getaway from it all" destination. (But for those who require to stay in touch we do have good cellphone reception.)
Sani Pass trips can be organised. This is a must for anyone who has never been up. NB Don`t forget your Passports!!! S A citizens with an ID can purchase a temporary passport for R30.

is a cosy cottage consisting of a large open plan room with a double-bed and a single sleeper couch for a child. (for which we do not supply linen. It has an en-suite bathroom which consists of bath, shower, basin and toilet.
There are two easy chairs facing a large window. For the cold winter nights there is a log fire-place. The custom built kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. A side door opens onto a covered patio and barbeque area, with a magnificent view.Kestrel
is a cozy Harvey thatched one bedroom cottage with double bed. The en-suite bathroom consists of bath, shower toilet and basin. The living area has a custom built kitchen (well equipped with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery) with breakfast nook at one end - easy chairs, a single bed and log fireplace at the other.
The door opens onto a small wooden deck and barbeque area with magnificent views. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COTTAGE HAS GOT THATCH ON THE INSIDE AND MIGHT AFFECT ASTHMATICS.Jackal Buzzard
cottage has a small bedroom downstairs with a double bed. Fairly steep steps (not for the infirm) lead to a large bedroom upstairs which also has a double bed, electric blanket in winter and a lovely view.
Downstairs there is a full bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and basin. The living room has a Jetmaster log fireplace. The living room is open plan into a small breakfast nook cum dining area, and well equipped custom built kitchen with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. cottage is a 3 bedroom log and block chalet. The main bedroom has a double bed and a bathroom en-suite which consists of bath, basin and toilet.
The other 2 bedrooms have 2 single beds in each and there is another small bathroom with a shower, loo and wash hand basin. There is a well equipped kitchen with gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.
The large living area has a log fireplace and dining-room area. Double doors open up onto a covered patio with views across the valley and down to the trout dams. There is also a barbeque area.Lammergeier
is a handcrafted log cabin with magnificent 360 degree views. Downstairs there are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds.
There is one full bathroom with a bath, shower, basin and toilet and another separate toilet with hand basin. The large living area cum dining-room area and has a log fireplace and is open plan into the well equipped kitchen consisting of gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.
Double doors open up onto a wooden deck and a single door opens up onto a covered deck. Upstairs there is a large open plan loft with 6 single beds and above this is another small loft with 2 mattresses on the floor for which we do not supply linen. There is also a barbeque area.Fish Eagle
chalet has got 3 bedrooms. Bedroom One consists of a double bed with an en – suite shower, toilet and basin. The sitting room leads into the kitchen, this cottage does note have a fireplace but a gas heater can be hired.
The kitchen which is well equipped, with a gas stove, fridge, microwave, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, this is the best room of the cottage as it lead off onto an enclosed balcony with lovely views down towards the Umzimkulu river and farmlands, ideal for early morning breakfasts.
Bedroom Two (Open Plan) consist of double bed and two single beds with an en-suite bathroom, toilet and wash basin. An upstairs loft is accessible by means of a steep ladder from this room – ideally situated for kids with two single beds.

which is below Fish Eagle, however it is not connected to Fish Eagle by means of a staircase and needs to be accessed by means of an outside door if this cottage is taken as an extension.
EYRIE is a cozy self contained flat let with a double bed. It has a small living area with a wall heater. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, toilet and basin.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, a two plate stove with an oven, fridge, pots, pans and crockery. It has lovely views down towards the trout dam, the Umzimkulu River and farmlands, there is a barbeque area.
ON THE “DOWN SIDE” it does have a low knotty pine ceiling with exposed rafters – one would have to duck your head if you are much over 1,8m and as it lies below our kitchen and deck – guests can hear other guests above them.
It is not connected by a stair case to Fish Eagle and needs to be accessed by means of an outside door.
