Abrus Eco Lodge
Abrus Aco Lodge is a private and secluded malaria free tented camp situated between dolorite koppies, bordering the Vanderkloof dam.

We are located between Luckhoff and Philippolis. The lodge is ideal for people who want the camping experience but without the hassle of all the camping equipment.

The lodge is home to the "Karoo Five"- Spring Hare, Karoo Chat, Karoo Girdled Lizard, Aardwolf and Springbok. The other game you can see on walks include warthog, blesbok, kudu, mountain reedbuck and if you are really lucky caracal, black-backed jackal and aardvark. Not to mention there are over 267 species of bird in the area. For the reptile enthusiast there are many endemic species to see.

The area is abundant with ancient stone tools and Bushman etchings. The lodge braai is built in an old cattle kraal where the Griquas resided.

We offer bird watching, stargazing, guided walks and for the more adventurous, hiking trails, mountain biking, sleep outs, starlight bush dinners, fishing and 4X4 routes.

The lodge is fully equipped with a gas stove and oven, lighting, power points and hot water. There are three toilet and shower combinations, as well as our mountain view shower. A communal braai area and open plan kitchen are available for all guests to use. The lodge is self catering but guests have the opportunity to have a fully catered stay with our executive in house chef. Picnic baskets and bush dinners are available upon request and all dietary requirements can be met.

So why not come and enjoy the intimacy of the Veld away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Abrus Eco Lodge Activities:

4X4 Routes: - There are almost 28 km twin-track farm roads. Most of these roads are accessible to 2x4 vehicles with enough ground clearance and can be negotiated comfortably while the scenery is being admired. Other tracks are only accessible to 4x4 vehicles but they are the most rewarding because it leads to beautiful scenes over the Vanderkloof dam and the surrounding area and is a good challenge for the 4x4 enthusiast.

Starlight bush dinners: - Come and experience fine dining under African skies. Fire up your senses and taste buds and relax with a warm fire and stunning mountain views. Our executive chef can cater for any dietary requirements.

Mountain Biking: - The tracks lend themselves for both easy and more challenging mountain bike trails. All 4x4 roads can also be attempted by biking enthusiasts and can take you to breathtaking scenes on the farm.

Guided walks: - Guided excursions can also be arranged with either of the two fully qualified guides on duty. The walks will include the various plants and their medicinal uses, mammal, reptile, bird and insect species of the Nama Karoo as well as bushman etchings and Stone age tools, which can be found scattered about the property.

Fishing and Birding: - The banks of the Vanderkloof dam can be reached with a 2x4 vehicle or a short 1 km walk from the campsite. This part of the lake offers excellent opportunities for anglers. With 267 species of bird in the area it offers people the chance to add to their lifer list, many of the birds are endemic. Permits are needed for fishing.
